About Sumi
I’m a freelance illustrator based in Italy.
My style is mainly “dreamy” and I love making naturalistic sets and fantasy worlds and costumes.
My favorite books are fairytales, I’m sooo in love with Andersen and I get a lot of inspiration from his stories.
My main source of inspiration comes from the Golden Age of both illustration and animation (SLEEPING BEAUTY YAY), but I also love modern stuff. Two of my biggest sources are Jiri Trnka and Annette Marnat even if my style doesn’t apparently take a lot from them.
I can make nice nature scenery and I like to play with special effects such as light, water and fire.
Digital painting is preferred, especially if you need your picture to include a background (plus it’s quicker and easier to modify if needed).
Mixed media (mainly watercolor) is my favorite traditional media, but my main technique is a mix of traditional and digital.
I don’t make “plastic-like” stuff when I use digital medias, I prefer to create the right texture/effect every time.
