Jamie and her sister commissioned this pet portrait from Studio Catawampus as a birthday gift for their mother. Isn’t it charming?
Backstory Behind the Piece: Q&A With Jamie
ArtCorgi (AC): What inspired you to commission this art?
Jamie (J): My sister and I wanted to create something that was personal, fun, and meaningful for our mother’s upcoming birthday. The three of us live in different countries so this was a way my sister and I could collaborate virtually then have the painting printed and shipped to my mother in the country she lives in. Plus I’ve known about ArtCorgi for a while and have been meaning to try your services.
AC: What drew you to Studio Catawampus’ style?
J: I appreciate the whimsical nature of Studio Catawampus’ animal figures and the water color style of their paintings. My mother loves her pets more than anything so we looked for an artist that could capture the “spirit” of our cat and dog. Studio Catawampus did a superb job conveying the personalities of our beloved pets in the painting. The end product is fun, silly, & unmistakably Tango (our dog) and Tom (our cat)!
AC: What advice would you give to a friend commissioning art for the first time?
R: CHECK OUT ARTCORGI! As someone who comissions art regularly, I really appreciated the ability to have clearly listed prices, guided interactions, wonderful customer support, and reasonable turn around time.
I would say: Look through all available artist and find someone whose style speaks to you, provide clear pictures from all directions, choose everyday pictures if you want to capture “personality”, and don’t be afraid to speak up if you think there is something that needs to be tweaked.
