Matthew’s Star Wars Inspired Action Shot

ArtCorgi Star Wars Inspired Commission by Nell Fallcard

Nell Fallcard recently released a new commission style (Express Illustrations) and Matthew was the first to give it a try. We love the result!

Backstory Behind the Piece: Q&A with Matthew

ArtCorgi (AC): What inspired you to commission this art?

Matthew (M): I’m a big fan of the BBC America “Robin Hood” show, which ran from 2006 to 2009. Even though I’m not a die-hard fan of the Star Wars franchise, I enjoyed the original trilogy as well as The Force Awakens. But then I saw another Robin Hood fan had photoshopped lightsabers on several photos of the show, which got me thinking “Why not mix them together?” It was something I couldn’t get out of my head, it sounded so awesome.

AC: How did you go about selecting an artist/style?

M: I stumbled upon ArtCorgi, and I wanted a style that was painterly but captured the actors’ likenesses well. Nell Fallcard’s style was absolutely perfect, so I picked her.

AC: What advice would you give to a friend who is interested in commissioning art for the first time?

M: Know what you have in mind, as well as the style you want to have it done in. Get plenty of reference photos and be specific, it makes the artist’s job much easier. Plus the person you’re giving it to will appreciate attention to detail in the little things.
