James and his fiancée have a habit of giving each other creative, interesting gifts. We think he nailed it out of the park with this one: a portrait of his fiancée as her WoW avatar by Bob Kehl in his fantasy illustration style. Well done, James! If only we were so good with gifts!

Backstory Behind the Piece: Q&A with James

ArtCorgi (AC): What inspired you to commission this art?

James (J): My fiancé and I have never been fans of simple gifts, so we’re always looking for something that is special and will last. I stumbled across ArtCorgi and found that something special.

AC: How did you go about selecting an artist/style?

J: I wanted a portrait that would show her as her avatar from World of Warcraft, and believe it or not, I found an example of Bob Kehl’s work where he had already done just that for another patron.

AC: What advice would you give to a friend who is commissioning art for the first time?

J: The best advice I would give to someone commissioning art for the for the first time is to ask questions of the ArtCorgi team. Simone was extremely helpful in helping me understand the norms of the process so that I could ensure my requests.
