We are always thrilled when we have the opportunity to share a new couple portrait with you, and the rough simplicity of this style (a trademark of Mourphine’s Simple Character illustration style) adds an extra kick of genuine love and earnestness to the piece that we just adore.
You can learn more about the couple and this piece from our Q&A with Kristen, the lovely lady who commissioned the piece, below.
Backstory Behind the Piece: Q&A with Kristen
ArtCorgi (AC): What inspired you to commission this art?
Kristen (K): It is our second year wedding anniversary and I was looking around for something “different” to do as a gift idea. I actually think it would be cool to do this every so often and eventually have like five or so sequentially on a wall to show the progression through our lives.
AC: We love that you chose to work your pet in! How did this adorable dog come into your lives?
K: Otis is our 4 year old English bulldog that we’re unhealthily obsessed with. Otis came into our lives as a result of drinking too many margaritas. He was just too cute of a puppy to pass up, and because of the margaritas, we really couldn’t think of any negatives to adopting him. So glad for margaritas!
AC: What advice would you give to a friend who is commissioning art for the first time?
K: I would say to not have everything already planned out in advance. I think it’s cool to let the artist have some input and really put something together based on the pictures that you’ve sent. That being said, I would say to also make sure to send some pictures that show your personality, not just the exact stance you want etc.
